President’s Message
Dear Members of the ASHRAE South Korea Chapter,
I am Professor Jaehan Lim from the Department of Architectural and Urban Systems Engineering at Ewha Womans University. I am honored to serve as the President of the ASHRAE South Korea Chapter (hereinafter referred to as ASHRAE Korea Chapter) for the next two years starting from July 2024. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Kwangwoo Kim from Seoul National University, Professor Hwatak Han from Kookmin University, and the founding president Professor Yongsik Kim from Incheon National University (2014-2016), the 2nd and 3rd president Professor Youngil Kim from Seoul National University of Science and Technology (2016-2020), the 4th president Professor Jaewon Jung from Hanyang University (2020-2022), and the 5th president Professor Minki Sung from Sejong University (2022-2024) for laying the foundation for the establishment and activities of the ASHRAE Korea Chapter.
ASHRAE, which started in the United States, is an association of academic and industry professionals in the field of HVAC&R(heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, & refrigeration) and sustainable built environment. It has become one of the most influential associations globally by developing and providing technical and educational resources for HVAC professionals, establishing various specialized standards and guidelines, and protecting and creating benefits for its members. Since the 2000s, ASHRAE’s activities have expanded beyond the United States, forming a global network of HVAC professionals, promoting active technical exchanges and information sharing, and establishing chapters in over 30 countries worldwide, continuously expanding participating countries.
In October 2014, we also established the ASHRAE South Korea Chapter with ASHRAE members active in Korea. The ASHRAE South Korea Chapter currently participates in ASHRAE Region XIII, a union of chapters from 10 countries in the Asia region.
Despite various practical difficulties for the sustainable built environment, our ASHRAE Korea Chapter has been striving for the development and internationalization of related fields in collaboration with existing academic and professional associations in the fields of building environment and facilities, refrigeration and air conditioning, and renewable energy system, based on the active participation and support of our members since its establishment. We have also contributed to revitalizing the domestic industry by sharing ASHRAE’s rich technical and educational resources and human networks. We will continue to actively seek and promote activities that benefit the development of related fields in Korea with the members of the ASHRAE South Korea Chapter.
We look forward to your continued cooperation and interest.
Thank you.
